Let’s be serious, America is overweight and the Numbers of those with Obesity continue to rise. 2/3rds of Adult Americans are Overweight or Obese. Many turn to crash diets or extreme eating habits, but really it is as simple as just eating what our body was designed to eat and eliminating the intake of what we shouldn’t.
Below are some Foods that I would recommend staying far from and some Healthy Alternatives that make great substitutes.

Frozen Meals:
Though these are quick and easy to grab for lunch at work and may even appear to be a balanced meal, they are far from it! Frozen Dinners are very high in Calories, Fat, and are loaded with Sodium.
Healthy Alternative: Make extra dinner food the night before and put it in a Tupperware as your lunch. I assure you that this will taste a lot better than your frozen dinner, well unless you are a Really bad cook.
Doughnuts:
Though these are tasty treats, they are deep-fried killers. They are loaded with Trans Fat and Refined Sugars. These are definitely not a good way to start your day out.
Healthy Alternative: Sink your teeth into a nice 100% Whole Wheat Bagel, Toast, or English muffin. I would be lying to you if I said that these items are as good as a doughnut, but believe me, your body will appreciate the change!
Potato Chips:
Sorry, I know this is yet another yummy food that I am asking you to ditch, but potato chips are full of fat and are loaded with sodium.
Healthy Alternative: Rice Cakes are a great substitute. These no longer taste like cardboard like they did years ago; they actually have a variety of flavors to choose from. A small handful of Low-Sodium Nuts is also a good option, and are even loaded with fiber. And don’t forget some good ‘ole fashioned fresh veggies like carrots, broccoli, or celery….Just go easy on the dressing.
Margarine:
Everyone calls their margarine butter these days, but they are very different. Margarine elevates cholesterol and damages blood vessel walls.
Healthy Alternative: Low Sodium Butter. The taste is nearly the same, but so much healthier for you. Butter is more expensive, but it is a worthy investment!
Soda:
Yep I said it! I know I just may have brought a few of you to your knees, but you have got to ditch soda if you want to lose weight. Even Diet Soda drinkers, I am talking to you as well. Soda is high in Calories, Sugar, Caffeine, and are one of the worst things that we put inside our bodies. I am asking you not to minimize your intake, but eliminate it!! Even 2 Sodas a Week can affect your chances of developing diabetes and increase your risk of pancreatic cancer.
Healthy Alternative: Water. If you can’t stomach just water, you can add Flavor packets to it. Be sure to get the all-natural ones. Shoot for 8 glasses a day of water. This will help with the overall health of your body, digestion, skin, and the list goes on. Lemonade, Tea, and other similar drinks are ok in moderation, just as long as the sugar intake is minimal.
White Flour/ White Bread/ White Rice/ White Pasta:
These are sure to really pack on the pounds. These products have little to no nutrients, cause your blood sugar to rise and crash, and slow the process of digestion.
Healthy Alternative: Whole Wheat Bread/ Brown Rice/ Whole Wheat Pasta. You will feel so much better when you eliminate White Flour in your diet.
Anything Imitation:
If it’s not the real thing, then it’s not for you! Why choose processed over the real thing? Why eat imitation cheese when you could eat real cheese? Imitation products are loaded with fillers that just aren’t good for you.
Healthy Alternatives: Just eat the real thing!
All in all, it just takes a few simple changes to your diet to see the pounds come off. Make sure to have a well-balanced diet including Grains, Dairy, Meats, Fruits and Vegetables, and minimize the amount of sugars, fried foods, and fat you are putting in your diet. And don’t forget to exercise too!
